Positioning in the Storz & Bickel range:

The Venty builds on the foundations of the Mighty's runaway success, while offering significant new features, including the best airflow of any portable vaporizer. Like the Mighty before it, the Venty is a large, portable dry herb vaporizer. It's not a discreet device. The lower half of the device contains the batteries and temperature controls. An all-new convection and conduction heating unit sits in the middle, and vapor passes through an adjustable air chamber at the top of the device. Storz & Bickel claims that this offers users more precise customization than previous models. Warm-up time is claimed to be the shortest of the firm's devices, rising to 190°C in 20 seconds.

The Venty addresses some of the long-standing criticisms of the Mighty. The new model has a flat base, which allows it to stand upright and should make it easier to fill. The narrow but tall design gives it the appearance of being more transportable than the Mighty (despite weighing slightly more). Some drawbacks remain, notably the absence of a removable battery and the all-plastic steam passage.

When we ask Jürgen Bickel, co-founder and managing director of Storz & Bickel, what surprises Venty users for the first time, here's his answer:

"Ah, I'd say the warm-up time," he said. "We don't expect it. You wait and wait, and then you see it's already [à la bonne température]. The other feedback we get is that people like to play with the airflow. [Quand vous utilisez l'appareil pour la première fois] at first, users think they'll always use the maximum airflow, but sometimes, when [l'herbe] gets a bit dry / harsh or at a slightly higher temperature, you can reduce the airflow. It's fun to experiment."

The new design allows the unit to have twice the airflow of the Crafty and Mighty. The two former devices can reach 10 liters per minute, while the Venty's design allows it to reach 20 L/min. Their flagship salon vaporizer, the Volcano, offers an airflow of 30 L/min.

Given the high airflow, the Venty's airflow adjustment mechanism is a welcome feature.

Air flow is what sets the German brand's devices apart. Using other vaporizers feels like sucking a thick milkshake through a straw. I own and use a Mighty and a Volcano almost every day. They both offer best-in-class airflow, and in practice, that sometimes means too much vapor. Or if you're sharing a session with a friend, they might want a different experience, and the Venty offers a thumbwheel for quick adjustments.

Battery life is said to be comparable to that of a Mighty, but users may find a shorter lifespan depending on usage. "Because of the fast warm-up time, you warm it up more often," he said. "You can do shorter sessions than with the Mighty. You can heat [un Venty] two or three times during a session, and that's when the battery could potentially be put under more strain."

Two 18650-size Li-Ion batteries power the device and can handle a current of up to 16 amps, which is why the device heats up so quickly.
